Description FAQS

These versatile smart pots are the latest innovation in raised gardening and provide many opportunities for growing healthy foods without having to till ground or build permanent structures. Made from a porous, landscape-grade, poly fabric these flexible garden pots allow oxygen to penetrate to the roots while encouraging healthy, lateral branching instead of circular growth.

Inter-Cropping: Melons, Squash, Tomatoes
Besides the main crop plants, smart pots have additional space to intercrop a varieties of companion plants such as chives or nasturtiums which are beneficial varieties that help deter pests. You can even add a few nitrogen fixers such as clover or sweet peas.

Pocket Planting: Herbs, Lettuce, Strawberries
The fabric nature of smart pots allows growers to maximize space by growing plants on the smart pot sides, as well as on the top. This ‘pocket planting’ increases the number of crops you can grow in the same footprint. Simply cut an X where you want the plant to be, insert the seeding and soon the plants will surround the sidewalls with growth. Ideal for kitchen herbs, flowers, salad greens and of course, strawberries!

Roll Up Technique: Growing Potatoes
Stop growing your spuds in old toxic tires! The soft-walled smart pots are the definitive solution to growing taters. Simply roll down the sides like you would roll up a shirt sleeve so that the new height is approx. 8” tall. Place in a sunny location (6+ hours of direct sun). Add 6” of potting soil and plant 4-6 potato sets spaced equidistant. As the plants grow, gradually unroll the smart pots, adding leaf mulch or compost to cover the stems of the plants. Potatoes will form off of the buried sections (it is ok to bury leaves and branches). Do this until your soil depth is close to the top of the bag. At the end of the season when the plant tops start to yellow and die down, simply dump the entire contents onto a tarp and collect your harvest. No pitchforks needed!
